The contest was presented by the American Cheese Society, a not-for-profit trade organization founded to support the North American artisan and specialty cheese industry. Unlike other cheese competitions, the goal of the American Cheese Society Contest is to give positive recognition to those cheeses that are of the highest quality in both their aesthetic and technical evaluation. As a result of these high judging standards, only the highest quality cheeses are those that the ACS feels deserve the recognition of an award.
This year’s contest was the largest ever, with 257 companies submitting 1,794 different products. Among these entries were products produced by “Nuestro Queso”, several of which received distinctions in the contests’ three Hispanic Cheese categories. The biggest winner for “Nuestro Queso” was Queso Fresco, which received first place in the Fresh Cheese category, further reinforcing its first place win earlier this year at the United States Cheese Championship Contest. Other “Nuestro Queso” winners included Duranguense, Nuestro Queso’s quesadilla cheese, which won second place in the Ripened Cheese category, and Para Freir which placed third in that same category. Enchilado earned third place in the Flavored Added category.
